Distinguished Teaching Scholars

The Distinguished Teaching Scholars (DTS) program is designed to honor faculty who are our leading teachers and create university-wide conversation about pedagogy.  Nominees should have demonstrated:

  1. pedagogical leadership at all levels of their field;
  2. a long-term commitment to creating and maintaining a dynamic classroom environment at Emory; and
  3. a record of engaging students in individual and group situations.

All full-time faculty are eligible to apply.

The Distinguished Teaching Scholars program will provide a $2500 discretionary professional development account for one year to those selected based on their demonstrated excellence in teaching. Funds may be used to support teaching and research activities only.

Each Distinguished Teaching Scholar will be featured as a “Master Teacher” in a variety of Emory publications, as well as on the CFDE’s website. In a special section on its website, the CFDE will feature podcasts of the Distinguished Teaching Scholar’s views on pedagogy and key mini-lectures from his or her classroom. Distinguished Teaching Scholars will participate in a monthly university-wide “Teaching Table” to discuss current pedagogical issues and best pedagogical practices. They will also act as intellectual leaders on pedagogy in their individual units, working with the CFDE to nurture initiatives on teaching. At the end of the year, Distinguished Teaching Scholars will present on the activities of their fellowship year, and provide the CFDE with a written or multimedia account of their work, which will be included on the CFDE website and other venues. After their year of participation, opportunities will be available for Distinguished Teaching Scholars to meet together for follow-up conversations and to advise the CFDE about its ongoing work.
